Creamy to light tan with dark brown, straight, distinct grain. Tough and has a high shock resistance.
Trees grow to 25-30 meters (80-120 ft). Grows in Europe, Central and North America, North Africa and Asia. Ours is European (FSC).
Historically used for baseball bats, furniture, wheel rims, oars, walking stocks and gates. Before the development of light metal alloys, Ash was used for carriages, motor vehicles and aircraft, e.g Havilland Mosquito bomber from WWII. Morgan sports cars still have a hand-build Ash frame. Ash is strong but relatively light for a hardwood.
