Trip Man

Olympus 35RD rangefinder camera, Serviced Exc+

£280

An Olympus 35RD rangefinder 35mm camera in very good condition, fully serviced (by Luton Cameras), fully working and tested. We have fitted a new black cowhide leather. Comes with a lens cap and original instructions.

This 35mm camera comes with new light seals fitted and is supplied with new battery (LR44). The camera's light meter has been adjusted so that it accepts the 1.5 volts of the LR44 instead of the original (no longer-produced) 1.35v mercury battery.

We have tested the light meter, shutter and aperture and all are working correctly. Shutter speeds can be set from 1/2 - 1/500 + B. The ASA ranges from 25-800 with apertures from f1.7. There is shutter-priority auto, manual or B modes.

The 35RD is from the same family and era as the Trip 35 and has built-in light metering. It has a working self-timer and takes 49mm filters/hood etc. Focusing is by way of the rangefinder - just line-up the images in the centre of the viewfinder. This is more sophisticated than the Trip's viewfinder. The selected shutter and aperture can be seen in the viewfinder.

I personally think the 35RD is one of the best Olympus rangefinder cameras - it was built after the 35SP and is more compact but has adopted some of the quality features of the 35SP. It is only a bit bigger tan the 35RC but has a nicer lens. These cameras had a common issue with the shutter getting slow/oily/sticky after years of not being used, so having one fully serviced is the best way to ensure it will be good for many years to come.

The lens is the wonderful 40mm Zuiko f1.7. The lens focuses smoothly and is free from dust, fungus and scratches. Focus is easy in the nice bright viewfinder.

The serial number of the camera is 378010. Please see photos for condition of the actual camera for sale.

We are happy with the function of the camera and as such will provide a 12-month warranty.   A nice period compact rangefinder, ready to use. Great value for money.

Consider adding a hand-made wooden grip.

There are some reviews of the 35RD on-line, including this one by the Casual Photophile.
